Factory Voices: Vista Alegre and its people
“Vozes da Fábrica: Vista Alegre e as suas gentes” was an exhibition created within the framework of the bicentenary celebrations of Vista Alegre, one of Portugal’s most emblematic porcelain and ceramic brands.
Founded in 1824, Vista Alegre not only became a reference in fine porcelain production but also established what is widely recognized as the first workers’ neighborhood in Portugal, a pioneering social model that shaped a strong sense of community around the factory. Over two centuries, generations of artisans, painters, modelers, and factory workers contributed to the brand’s excellence, reputation, and continuity.
This project focused on celebrating those voices. Through testimonies, archival materials, and curated narratives, the exhibition highlighted the human dimension behind the brand — the people whose dedication, skill, and lived experiences built and sustained Vista Alegre’s legacy.
By placing workers and community members at the center of the storytelling, “Vozes da Fábrica” transformed an industrial milestone into a collective tribute, honoring not only a historic brand, but the generations who gave it life.
